Looking back at my two years in the program, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to meet so many smart and driven individuals, and to have access to outstanding professors. Prior to starting my program, I remember being excited but also determined to succeed at undertaking a very challenging curriculum. Thus, I decided to use my summer to prepare for my journey at SIPA! 1. Read a good book by a Seeple or two During my summer, I traveled and spent time with my family and friends. After working for almost nine years, I knew I needed some time to get ready for two, life-changing years. Some of the books that I read included, The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else by Hernando de Soto, The Price of Inequality by Joseph Stieglitz, and the End of Poverty by Jeffrey Sachs. I chose these books because I was interested in learning more about economic development and also to get acquainted with the work of some of SIPA’s outstanding professors. These books gave me a deeper understanding on the importance of the rule of law, the origins of black markets, and the role of foreign investment in the economic development of countries. 2. Math not your strong suit? Then take the Summer Math Tutorial Early in the summer, I remember receiving an email that encouraged students to complete the math tutorial prior to orientation. The math tutorial is a guide provided by SIPA to help students brush up on their math skills. Through conversations with alumni and friends, I learned about the rigorous economic classes that I would undertake. Therefore, I decided to enroll in both SIPAs math class and a private, math-refresher course in Honduras. (I had been out of school for some time and I wanted to ensure that my math skills were up to par.) Although SIPAs  tutorial is not mandatory, it definitely prepared me to undertake quantitative classes such as Economic Analysis I and II, Quantitative Analysis and International Trade. (Note: Youll receive details on the summer math tutorial in June from the Office of Student Affairs.) 3. Use other housing resources I was thrilled to move to New York City, and I was really looking forward to living in such a vibrant city. But I knew that like any change, it would require some work. Securing my housing accommodations was definitely on my top-priority list. Unfortunately, I waited until at the end of May to apply and there were already a high number of applicants on the waiting list. (Although all of my classmates found accommodations, I definitely encourage students to start looking for an apartment as early as possible.) Thus, I began looking  for housing on my own. I searched several housing portals, including Craigslist.com, Zillow.com and ForRent.com. In the end, I was lucky because of one my sisters (whos a SIPA alumna), ex-classmates was looking for roommate and the apartment was 10 minutes from campus. 4. Join the Facebook Group Like many people, I was curious to learn more about my future classmates. Thus, I joined SIPA’s Facebook Group and communicated with many of them through this tool. My classmates came from all parts of the world and the group was very supportive. It was very easy for me to make friends and I felt like I knew some of them prior to starting the academic year. I also remember there were meet-and-greets in different cities across the world. Although I didn’t participate in any event, I heard that people really enjoyed meeting their fellow classmates! After the song ends Senex hides from his wife and goes to take a bath and tells Hysterium to bring the maid Phila after he finishes into Erronius house where Senex was staying. But while this is happening, Erronius returns home, finally having given up the search for his long-lost children. Hysterium, desperate to keep him out of the house where his master is bathing, tells the old man that his house has become haunted – a story seemingly confirmed by the sound of Senex singing in his bath. Erronius immediately determines to have a soothsayer come and banish the spirit from his house, and Pseudolus obligingly poses as one, telling Erronius that in order to banish the spirit, he must travel seven times around the seven hills of Rome (thus keeping the old man occupied and out of the way for quite a while). Hysterium starts to go crazy and sings â€Å"I’m Calm† the music has a lot of plucking from the strings. The tone was mellow, with only one beat, pitch was high, and tempo Presto, dynamic is fortissimo, AB form, one beat. The story goes on to Histerium not bring Phila to Senex who she thinks is Miles Glorious. However, Phila comes out and goes and hugs Hero while Senex sees and Phila then winks at Senex. Both men are confused and wonder what the heck is happening. While Hysterium is acting like Phila dead the captain wants a big funeral for her so all the slave girls and soldiers are there morning her. Pseudolus appears to be in deep trouble; however, Erronius, completing his third circuit of the Roman hills, shows up unexpectedly to discover that Miles Gloriosus and Philia are wearing matching rings which mark them as his long-lost children. Philia’s betrothal to the Captain is canceled by the unexpected surprise that he’s her brother. Philia weds Hero; Pseudolus gets his freedom and the lovely slave girl Gymnasia; Gloriosus receives twin courtesans to replace Philia; Erronius gets his children, and a happy ending prevails for all – except for poor Senex, stuck with his shrewish wife Domina. First, I will be mention ing why marijuana drug criminalities are the biggest plague in the criminal justice system . Next , we will talk about the positive and negative impact on the criminal justice system if marijuana were legalized everywhere . Lastly, I will go over how the Trump administration stands on marijuana and how it could affect the criminal justice system. The most significant crime that has the biggest impact on the criminal justice system , in my opinion , is marijuana drug - related crimes. Of course , this does not pertain to drug crimes that end in homicide, but simply possession or intent of selling charges of marijuana. "Marijuana arrests were about 13.6 percent more than the 505,681 violent crimes arrests mad e in 2015" (Williams, 2016). In early attempts to racially stigmatize a drug which was first known as cannabis, changing of its name were in attempts to undermine the people that consumed this drug. It was documented in the 1970's about how new drug laws targeted minority groups to achieve mass incarceration, so from the 1980's to 2009 , there was a big increase in the criminal justice system for drug related offenses. Some of the issues have since been resolved through the legalization of marijuana use in some states, and because of this move, those states are capitalizing on its profit and less law enforcement pres ence with marijuana. This , "... could become a conflict between the current presidential a dministration and the states because in the latter administration, states were given ultimate control of their recreational marijuana use laws" (Krishna, 2017). Positive impacts that marijuana legalization would have on the criminal justice system would be a gigantic increase in savings for appropriate system regarding lesser criminal arrests. "Colorado alone is estimated to potentially save $12-$40 million dollars over a year by ending arrests for marijuana possession" (Roberts, 2014). There would also be less money spent on housing inmates for short periods of time beca use of minor charges which save taxpayers' dollars. Negative impacts that marijuana legalization could have on a particular society begins with youth utilization. It is believed that over 10 percent of Colorado youth were marijuana users according to a re port by the Rocky Mountain High- Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. This has driven school- related suspensions and expulsions due to drug violations. These effects impact the criminal justice system in unforeseen ways. We cannot predict how the youth will turn out as adults, meaning, whether they stay on the legal side of marijuana use or become so addicted that they conduct more violent crimes for their vice. "It seems the long-standing tension between state marijuana law reform and federal prohibition is headed for a big confrontation " (Kamin, 2017). This statement comes from a perceptive idea because of the appointment of Jeff Sessions as attorney general. Sessions is one of the country's biggest anti-drug spokesmen. It is believed that the president is once again going back on his word because he stated that "marijuana legislature should be left to the states", but the white house press secretary Sean Spicer stated that "states , where recreational marijuana use is legal , will be subject to greater enforcement". This would mean for many unsolved answers that are currently in our criminal justice system. In turn , this would have an impact on all of the formal stages of the criminal process.
